1. Who owns the domain names I register through SearchBC.Com?
  The owner of the domain name is the Organization Contact listed by the registrant at the time the user name and password are created on our system. If there is no Organization name, the name of the individual listed as the Organization contact is the owner.
2. Once I've registered my domain name with SearchBC.Com how do I get it to work with my web site?
  If you currently have a web site you will need to make arrangements with your service provider to host the DNS and set up their servers to handle your new domain. To change your domain name DNS information (names of your Internet Service Provider's server(s) to point your domain name to) go to http://hosting.searchbc.com/login/#Domain to login to the domain name manager. SearchBC.Com is now offering web site hosting starting at $19.95/mnth+GST, click here to check out the cost effective web hosting packages we offer.
3. Do I have to sign any other service contract in order to take advantage of SearchBC.Com domain name registration pricing and the free services offered with domain name registrations?
  No. SearchBC.Com does not require you to sign any other service contract in order to take advantage of domain name pricing. As part of registering a domain name, as with other world wide domain name registrars (such as register.com and networksolutions.com), you are required to agree to a domain name registration terms of service agreement but the agreement does not bind you to any other service contract. SearchBC.Com is offering web site hosting starting at $19.95/mnth+GST but this is offered as an option only.
4. What type of domain name registations does SearchBC.Com offer?
Currently we offer .ca, .cc, .com, .info, .net, .org, .uk and .tv domain name registrations. We will expand our domain name offerings as new domain name designations are released by the central domain name registration authority.
5. What is a .ca domain name?
A .ca domain name is a globally recognized domain name specifically identified as Canadian.
6. Who can register a .ca domain name?
Any resident of Canada. All earlier restrictions and requirements for .ca qualification have been removed.
7. Are Canadian Provincial domain name designations still available? (ie.: .bc.ca, .on.ca etc.)
Yes, but if the some domain name has already been registered as a .ca it will not be available for registration under a provincial designation.
8. How long do .ca registrations take?
.ca registration applications are immediate using the SearchBC.Com registration system. The registration completion process is a 3 level process, please see the top of this page for details.
9. Is there an annual fee for .ca registrations?
Yes, recently CIRA changed .ca registration protocol to include an annual fee. This fee is now applicable to all domain name registrations with a provincial or federal (.ca) designation no matter what date they were originally registered.
10. What is a .uk domain name?
  A .uk domain name is a globally recognized domain name specifically identified as originating in the United Kingdom. The extensions .co.uk and .org.uk are available for general use.
11. Who can register a .uk domain name?
Almost anyone, a. .uk domain name registration is not restricted, but the UK registry reserves the right to deny registrations if the domain does not meet the rules laid down by the UK registry.
12. What is a .tv domain name?
  .tv is the Top Level Domain (TLD) for the country of Tuvalu, a small Pacific Island. Through an agreement with the country of Tuvalu, the California company dotTV became the exclusive registry for .tv domain names.
13. Who can register a .tv domain name?
.tv names are available to anyone for general use.
13. What is a .cc domain name?
  The .cc domain is the Top Level Domain (TLD) for Cocos (Keeling Islands), which has also come to represent "Chinese Corporation" and "Country Club," etc.
14. Who can register a .cc domain name.
  Anyone.
15. Why is this service so inexpensive?
SearchBC.Com Communications and New Media Data Marketing Inc. have become a domain name registrar. In doing this we secured wholesale domain name pricing and have decided to offer domain names to the public at a low cost.
16. Are domain name registered through SearchBC.Com real Internet domain names?
  Yes, there is only one world domain name registry for .com, .org, .net domain names. Recently the registry has authorized many registrars. Domain names registered with SearchBC.Com are authentic Internet domain names.
17. How do I change the contact information of the domain name I registered with you?
  You can use our Domain Name Manager to change any of the domain name registration information specific to the domain name(s) you've registered through us. Go to http://hosting.searchbc.com/login/#Domain to login to the domain name manager.
18. What are the annual fees for domain names registered through SearchBC.Com?
  Annual fees are the same as initial registration fees + GST per each year you wish to register the domain name for. We offer the ability to register a domain name for up to 10 years.
19. Can I transfer my domain name to SearchBC.Com to take advantage of low cost domain name registration renewal fees and other free services you offer to domain name registrants?
  Yes, this is called a "domain name registrar transfer". In order to do this we need to bill you for a one year registration. This allows you to transfer your domain names over to us as the registrar (you remain the owner of the domain name) and adds a 1 year registration extension on to your domain name registration (ie. if you move a domain name over that is 6 months away from renewal, after you pay us the 1 year renewal fee and are transferred to us, you won't have to renew your registration for 1 year and 6 months). 20. Can I register a domain name with SearchBC.com without having a web site?
  Yes, we offer free domain name parking specifically for companies and individuals who don't want a web site at this time, but want to use their domain name for email. See question #17 for details regarding domain name parking.
21. Can SearchBC.Com help me if I want to setup a new web site or host an existing web site?
  Yes, SearchBC.Com offers web site hosting starting at $19.95/mnth + GST, click here to see web site hosting package details.
22. What is domain name parking?
  Domain name parking is the service that we provide to people who register a domain name and don't have a web site to point it to. This allows people to reserve the domain name for future web use and continue to use it for email. Domain name parking is not the same as domain or web site hosting. Click here if you have registered a domain name with SearchBC.Com and want to request your FREE POP mail and email alias accounts to be setup.
23. Is there another method of payment other than credit card payment to purchase a domain name from SearchBC?
  No, we apologize for any inconvenience to those who wish to pay using an alternate method. Online credit card payment allows to keep the cost of processing domain names down, and enables us to pass savings on to the customer.
24. Who is the Technical contact of domain names I register through SearchBC.Com?
  When you register a domain name with SearchBC.Com our parent company, New Media Data Marketing Inc. becomes the domain name's Technical Contact by default. You can change this information if your web site is to be hosted/parked by another Internet Service Provider. Use the Domain Name Manager to modify technical contact information.
25. How do I setup and manage my free SearchBC.Com POP mail account and email aliases?
  Click here to request the set up your free POP mail account and email aliases. If you move your domain name service from SearchBC.Com we are no longer able to provide you with the free POP mail account and email aliases.
26. What is domain name service (DNS)?
  DNS is the Internet service that enables web sites to use www domain names as web site addresses and routes Internet users and email messages to the right places.
27. What is a SearchBC.Com POP mail account?
  A SearchBC.Com POP mail account is an email box that allows you to receive email sent to your domain name. This is separate from your existing ISP, dialup or web-mail account email. If you wish your domain name email to be delivered to your existing email address read question #18.
28. What is an email alias and how does it work for me?
  An email alias is like a forwarding service. You are able to receive email sent to addresses at your domain name and send email from addresses at your domain name using your existing dialup, web-mail or POP mail account. It's a lot easier than it sounds! When you send a request to SearchBC.Com to have an email alias(s) to be setup (ie. info@yourcompany.com) you will be required to provide us with the name(s) of your existing dialup, web-mail or POP mail account(s) to which you would like mail sent to info@yourcompany.com to be delivered. When someone sends email to info@yourcompany.com, all you will need to do is get your email as usual. The email sent to email aliases at your domain name will be in your email software Inbox. To send email using an email alias (ie. info@yourcompany.com) all you need to do is change the "from address" in your email software to the email alias name you have chosen to send from. Each email alias can be forwarded to a different dialup, web-mail or POP mail account (ie. info@yourcompany.com could be sent to yourname@yourISP.com; the address help@yourcompany.com could be sent to yourname@anotherISP.com.
